Our Requirements

  • English: All applicants must be fluent in English and have obtained the following English examination scores:
  • TOEFL: 560 (paper-based) or 220 (computer-based);
  • TWE: 4.5;
  • TSE: 50; or
  • TOEFLibt: Total of 89 (Speaking, 26).

Exemptions for the English Exams: graduates of entry-level occupational therapy programs in Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand and the UK and others as specified by CGFNS/VisaScreen. Go to www.cgfns.org for more information.

Physical Therapists
You must hold at least a 4-year university degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited PT school. For FCCPT credentialing general education minimum credits will be 60 semester credits and professional education credits of 90 semester credits. The total minimum semester credits required are 150 credit units.
Avant requires applicants to be in possession of credentialing from one of the recognized credentialing agencies such as FCCPT or ICD. Preference is given to those applicants with FCCPT. We are unable to consider those with just NYSED at this time.

Occupational Therapists
You must have graduated with a Bachelor degree in Occupational Therapy (OT) from an accredited OT school. Please review the following link for a list of accredited schools. www.wfot.org. You may also be required to present your thesis as part of the process. If you hold a Master's Degree from an accredited school this will make your process easier and shorter.
Credentials completed through NBCOT, preference is given to those who have already taken and passed the NBCOT examination

Licensure: Current licensure in your country of education and practice.

Clinical Experience:
Avant requires at least one year of recent therapy experience in a hospital, clinic or home care setting. If you work in home care, it is a requirement that you hold a drivers license by the time you arrive in the US!
