Summary of Position Role/Responsibilities

The Director of Information Technology oversees the operations of the Information Technology (“IT”) department, including managing the IT team, developing and implementing IT initiatives, managing Avant’s computer and telecom systems, and working with management in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support secure solutions enabling employee productivity and operational efficiencies.  The Director of IT is a skilled project manager with vendor management and negotiation experience and has excellent technical and interpersonal skills.

Essential Functions of the Job 

  • Manages Avant’s hardware, software, network, and telecom systems, including system administration and maintenance  
  • Manages department activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of IT team members
  • Manages the IT support function to deliver outstanding internal customer service
  • Identifies security vulnerabilities and eliminates them with strategic solutions that increase data security
  • Directs and supports the implementation of new software and hardware
  • Determines business requirements for IT systems, and identifies and recommends new technology solutions
  • Coordinates IT activities to ensure data availability and network services with as little downtime as possible
  • Develops quarterly and annual departmental priorities and key metrics to measure success
  • Oversees all technology operations and evaluates them according to established goals
  • Develops and establishes IT policies and systems to support strategies and priorities set by upper management
  • Participats in the planning and administration of department and project budgets
  • Acts as a technical resource for all IT staff
  • Plans and coordinates project plans, schedules, and related activities
  • Ensures that Avant purchases efficient and cost-effective technology equipment and software
  • Assists in building relationships with vendors and creating cost-efficient contracts

  • Supervisor provides instruction and direction through personal observation, individual conferences, specific directive, and written memoranda.


  • This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance, management, and hiring of the employees within this department.

Normal Work Schedule

This is a full-time position, and core hours of work and days are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. May be required to work outside of standard business hours to successfully complete the duties of the position.

Education, Training, And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in programming, computer science, computer engineering, or related field is required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in an IT environment and progressive leadership
  • Experience in analysis, implementation, and evaluation of IT systems and their specifications
  • Expertise in project management and vendor relations and negotiation
  • Expert level knowledge of current IT hardware and software systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products
  • Quick Base experience is highly desirable
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment 

Required Licenses, Certifications, and Other Specific Requirements of Law

  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) certification (may be completed after commencement of employment)

Physical Demands: 

  • Sitting for long periods at a time
  • Regularly required to talk or hear
  • Occasional lifting of office supplies up to 20 lbs.
  • Vision abilities including close vision and ability to adjust focus

  • Must understand and follow a set of clear oral and/or written procedures without deviation
  • Must adhere to a provided work schedule to meet a set of qualitative production standards
  • Must relay information orally

Work Environment:

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely operates standard office equipment. 


  • Internal: Daily contact with professional staff members
