Summary of Position Role/Responsibilities

The PR & Communications Specialist II collaborates with the Business Development and Marketing team to develop and execute the company’s overall marketing communications and public relations strategies. This role is responsible for being a “Voice of the Brand” and promoting Avant’s reputation as an industry leader. The PR & Communications Specialist II also demonstrates subject matter expertise in a variety of areas such as search engine optimization (SEO), creation of professional content such as whitepapers and case studies, and pitching engaging content to publications.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Develop, implement, and collaborate with the Marketing team in the execution of strategic-creative PR plans,  tactics, and targeted marketing communications that promote the Avant brand positively and generate a buzz
  • Drive Avant’s thought leadership position through the creation of whitepapers, case studies, blogs, and other written web content material while using search engine optimization (SEO) best practices
  • Assist with planning, logistics, and implementation of yearly publicity plans and tactics with SVP of Sales and Marketing and Executive team
  • Develop and distribute press releases while monitoring the company’s online reputation
  • Organize and lead any tradeshows or national conferences through the professional and knowledgeable representation of Avant
  • Independently conduct industry research and relevant company/industry news to compile informational media reports, coordinate client webinars, and create press opportunities for the Avant brand
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team by seeking out opportunities for future branding efforts and gathering customer references and testimony to include on client communications
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team on the planning and producing of digital media content such as but not limited to; photo or video shoots and YouTube content
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with the press and key strategic audiences within the industry to collaborate with them on Avant promotional opportunities
  • Track spending against individual PR and marketing tactics, ensuring projects are delivered on time and at or under budget
  • Develop and maintain weekly project reports/summaries of public relations projects through comprehensive measurement of program results and coverage
  • Provide approved company information for any media calls and conduct local or regional media relations for Avant events as requested
  • Assist in maintaining the organization’s positive image by building media lists, pitching to publications, monitoring the daily media for Avant’s inclusion in news/trends, and escalating issues to the Director of Marketing as needed
  • Assist the other PR & Communication Specialists on the team through the training, mentoring, and review or approval of their work as needed.
  • Assist the Marketing team with various department tasks such as but not limited to maintaining the accuracy of Avant databases and CRM, maintaining public relations materials, managing social media accounts, and editing and proofreading the company newsletter

Normal Work Schedule

This is a full-time position. Standard business hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Additional time outside these hours may be needed to cover events and complete the essential functions of the job

Education, Training, And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, communications, or other similar area of study required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working professionally in public or media relations at mid to large-size organizations and/or related training required
  • Agency experience is preferred
  • Proven track record of writing professional PR pieces such as whitepapers, case studies, blogs, and more
  • Strong proficiency in AP and APA style technical and creative writing
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to come up with innovative solutions
  • Experience in conducting marketing presentations to key stakeholders
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, Adobe, and electronic database management

Required Licenses, Certifications, and Other Specific Requirements of Law

  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) certification or ability to obtain

  • Must adhere to a provided work schedule to meet a set of qualitative production standards
  • Must relay information orally

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely operates standard office equipment.
