Avant Healthcare Professionals Journey to ANCC Accreditation

Avant Healthcare Professionals announced that it had received Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD) accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This accreditation reinforces the company's commitment to using evidence-based criteria when developing high-quality educational activities that promote the professional growth of its nurses.

With this distinction, obtained in January 2022, the Avant Healthcare Professionals Provider Unit joins an influential global community of accredited organizations focused on advancing nursing practices and improving outcomes. Avant Healthcare Professional’s Continuing Education team worked over the last year and a half to receive this honor. This distinction proves the company’s dedication to excellence and innovation within international nurse staffing. This accreditation allows Avant Healthcare Professionals to support clients, healthcare professionals, and corporate nurses in their continued education and professional development.

What This Means

The ANCC Accreditation Model is based on the original Donabedian model of quality, which provides a framework to evaluate the structure, process, and outcome measures of the organization and its NCPD activities.

The application process to becoming an accredited provider through the American Nurses Credentialing takes planning, time, determination, and an ongoing commitment to providing high-quality education. Avant Healthcare Professionals is committed to being leaders in their field and decided in 2019 to focus on obtaining this ANCC accreditation status.

The motivation to start the project was to provide the internationally educated nurses (IEN) within the program high-quality education and develop content within this platform that addressed the cultural differences the nursing population faced as immigrants in the USA. This culturally driven content would also provide staff working alongside the IENs within client facilities an opportunity to grow awareness of the impact culture has on orientation to the workplace, communication style, and even attitudes.

The Accreditation Process

Following the organization's decision to move forward with the application, a new department was needed to separate the ANCC education from Avant Healthcare Professional's other services. The Provider Unit must function as a separate entity from the overarching organization; therefore, standardized operating procedures had to be determined, and manuals written to put the Provider Unit in place.

The written requirements for this application are extensive. The ANCC utilizes the Donabedian Model of Quality, which analyzes the structure, processes, and outcomes to examine an organization's quality of education. After submitting the initial documentation in July, which included the educational activities offered since creating the division, Avant Healthcare Professionals had ample time to complete the narrative requirements and collect the information required for the ANCC to review.

The application was submitted and accepted, and the final step was receiving the assigned appraisers and waiting for a virtual visit. The virtual visit was an opportunity to clarify, verify, and amplify anything the appraisers did not feel was clear or answer any of their questions. Avant Healthcare Professionals was then alerted that they had received ANCC accreditation following the submission and visit.
