“Take the leap. It won’t always be easy, but it will be worth it.”
Jerrold took a leap of faith to become a U.S.-RN and is now recognized as Employee of the Quarter for outstanding patient care and teamwork at his U.S. facility.
Why I became a Nurse
I’m originally from the Philippines, and ever since I was young, I’ve had a deep desire to care for others. Nursing felt like a natural path because it combined both compassion and science. I was drawn to the idea of making a real difference in people’s lives, especially during their most vulnerable moments. I know that nursing is my calling. After completing my degree and gaining experience back home, I realized I wanted to grow even more—both personally and professionally.
The Decision to Move
Moving to the U.S. was a big decision, but one rooted in prayer and opportunity. I wanted to challenge myself and expand my knowledge within a more advanced healthcare system. The U.S. offers countless possibilities for professional development, and I knew that making the move could open doors I had only dreamed of. It was also about building a better future for my family.
Avant’s Role
I discovered Avant Healthcare Professionals through an online search and later connected with other nurses who had successfully migrated through their program. What stood out to me about Avant was their structure, support, and commitment to international nurses. They provided clear guidance, helped with licensure, immigration, and relocation, and were there every step of the way. I never felt like I was doing this alone—Avant was with me throughout the journey.
Challenges Faced
Relocating to a new country is as emotional as it is logistical. The cultural shift and adjusting to a new work environment were significant challenges, but I am thankful my family was with me every step of the way. I took it day by day. Avant’s orientation and support helped ease the transition, and I leaned on the friendships I built with fellow international nurses. Eventually, what once felt foreign started to feel like home.
Professional Growth
Since moving to the U.S., my career has grown in ways I didn’t anticipate. I’ve gained exposure to advanced medical technologies, interdisciplinary teamwork, and continuous learning opportunities. I’ve become more confident, more skilled, and more adaptable. This move has pushed me to reach new levels in my career, and I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come.
Receiving the Employee of the Quarter
Being named Employee of the Quarter was both emotional and humbling. It was more than just an award—it was recognition of the journey, the hard work, and the sacrifices I’ve made. It reminded me that I belong here, and that I’m making a difference in my workplace and my patients’ lives.
Advice for Aspiring Nurses
To any nurse thinking about moving to the U.S.: take the leap. It won’t always be easy, but it will be worth it. Be patient, stay focused, and lean on the support systems around you. Choose a partner like Avant that understands the process and genuinely cares about your success. Your dreams are valid—and with hard work, God’s help, and the proper guidance, they are absolutely within reach.
