Chinyere is originally from Nigeria. In this blog, she shares her story about becoming a USRN with Avant Healthcare Professionals. Chinyere now has a successful career and life as a U.S. citizen.

Why did you decide to become a USRN?

I grew up in a family of 8. My parents are civil servants with a lean income, but we were rich in their love and dedication to us- they brought us up to be disciplined Christians and always led us to the right path.

Before I became a nurse, I was an accountant. Later, I got my postgraduate diploma in Business Administration and a master's degree in marketing. I worked with many international and local companies with good reputations and recognition from my bosses. I was so good as an accounting officer, recovered a lot of debts for my company, and performed excellently as a Marketing Manager in another company, but I knew something was still missing. With prayers, I realized that flipping over clients' ledgers wouldn't give me long-term fulfillment; I needed to contact people directly and help them, so I said I would go into teaching or nursing.

I was already married and had a 4-year-old daughter when I contemplated what to do for a fulfilled career. When I read the book "Gifted Hands" by Ben Carson, I saw myself in his story. I read it repeatedly, and I thought there was nothing I could not do with God on my side. One day in 2004, my cousin, who was already in nursing school, came home disappointed by the attitude of the registered nurses at the hospital where she was doing her clinical posting.

"How can someone caring for the sick behave in such a manner?"

Right at that moment, I decided that I would pursue nursing. I want to be a source of change and positive impact in nursing.

I applied to a school of nursing in Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu State, Nigeria. Despite initially being disqualified during the oral interview due to outdated qualifications, I didn't give up. In the same year, I retook the WAEC exam as an external candidate and met the necessary O'levels requirements. In 2005, with the support of my husband and family, I reattempted the entrance exam and secured a spot among the 65 successful candidates out of over 3000 applicants. As a determined young mother, I was driven to make a positive impact in the nursing profession, helping the sick and fellow human beings.

Despite the challenges, we, as dedicated healthcare professionals, were always willing to go the extra mile with our limited resources. While the circumstances were often difficult, we were determined to make a positive impact.

I decided to become a USRN when I received a personal vision from God, which I knew I had to pursue. The US offered the opportunities I needed to fulfill this dream, and becoming a USRN became my goal.

How was your Avant experience? What convinced you to join Avant Healthcare Professionals?

In my journey towards this American dream, I needed guidance and support, and that's where Avant Healthcare Professionals entered the picture. Their expertise and assistance were invaluable, and I'll forever be grateful to them.

How has your life changed living and working in the US?

Living and working in the US for the past two years and two months has transformed me professionally and personally. I've positively impacted the lives of those back home and found greater joy and happiness within. I feel very blessed.

Receiving the "Employee of the Month" award was a significant achievement for me, reaffirming my value and encouraging me to excel even further in my role. I was motivated that my work impacted my colleagues and my patients positively. I am so happy and grateful to God for that.

I have ambitious dreams, including pursuing a master's degree in healthcare and nursing administration and eventually a PhD. I also aspire to establish a healthcare facility back in my home country to provide international-standard healthcare services and collaborate with partners to expand these visions.

Additionally, I have a profound calling from God for a purpose in this age, the Kingdom age, which I am determined to fulfill.

Any advice to international nurses about coming to the US to pursue their American dream?

To my fellow nurses, I say this: never limit yourself, dream big, and be proactive. We can bring much positive change to our societies, and we must leave a lasting impact - that is non-negotiable. We are here to impact the lives of the future generation. The sky is your starting point, DREAM BIG!!!!

While there are numerous agencies, Avant Healthcare Professionals stands out for their professionalism and thorough preparation. Their support and training made me feel like part of a family, and I can't recommend them enough to those pursuing their US RN dreams.

When I tell my colleagues back home to try Avant, they said, "Avant is too thorough. I cannot go through the stress." I just laughed because they called stress the thorough training, with constant assignments and webinars you must go through with Avant. But then those things made Avant stand out above all others. Those things gave them a very high percentage of success in what they are doing.

No organization is 100% perfect, but some are better than others. So, if you want to migrate to the U.S. and become a USRN, choose Avant Healthcare Professionals for a successful journey.
