Avant Healthcare Professionals President Speaks to Growing Nursing Shortage and Filipino Scholarships on Philippines Television Newscast

Avant Healthcare Professionals, the premier staffing provider of internationally experienced nursing and allied health professionals, today announced that its president, Marisa Zaharoff, MSN, RN was featured on TV Patrol, a production of ABS-CBN News and the network’s flagship national and longest-running Filipino-language evening newscast.

The news segment focused on the recruitment of Filipino nurses to the United States to help aid in the nursing shortage, with Zaharoff sharing that “A growing number of those in the profession have retired or changed vocations, and not as many are pursing and graduating from college with nursing degrees.” Nurses who apply and are hired by Avant benefit from the company taking care of the costs, from examinations to the immigration process.

The feature also highlighted scholarships that Avant Healthcare Professionals plans to provide Filipino nursing students alongside the Department of Migrant Workers. Zaharoff notes that many globally educated nurses want to pursue healthcare careers in the U.S., but unfortunately, the costs and lengthy application process deter them. “It’s important to give back to the communities and the countries where we recruit,” she adds.

This marked Zaharoff’s second appearance on TV Patrol. In 2022, she shared that there were more than 200,000 nurse vacancies, and that over the next 10 or so years, the need will exceed a million.

The United States healthcare system continues to face critical conditions, with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting a need for over 275,000 additional nurses each year from 2020 to 2030.
