Meet DAISY Winner Rachel Clark
Rachel's current role is Clinical Nursing Instructor at Avant Healthcare Professionals. Her main responsibility consists of ensuring other internationally educated nurses are updated on how nursing is practiced in the United States. Another part of this training includes educating the nurses on the expectations when they officially go on assignment. Her role is a crucial part of the US-RN journey, as each nurse is expected to go through our programs before being assigned to any US facility. Some of these expectations include using updated technology that international RNs might not be used to or doing a full assessment. That's where Rachel's role comes into play so the nurses can be fully prepared for what lies ahead in the nursing industry.
Message from Rachel's Nominator
Erica DeMoss speaks to Rachel's nomination and the hard work she puts in every day. As a new mom, Rachel continues to put in an incredible amount of work and truly has a passion for what she does. She was honored in Avant Healthcare Professionals' last town hall for her well-deserved nomination and award! She has gone above and beyond in every aspect of her role, and it did not go unnoticed as we celebrate this exciting milestone.
From Bedside to Education
As a nurse by trade, Rachel talks about leaving the bedside and continuing her education and career at a corporate level. She explains how the opportunity to work at Avant Healthcare Professionals is exactly what she had been looking for to advance her career. While it was a difficult transition to leave the bedside, it has benefited many nurses to have Rachel as an educator who understands what they do. One of the biggest challenges to her job is ensuring our nurses can adapt to a new routine and a new country altogether. This means her job encompasses explaining why we practice specific nursing techniques and providing them with the tools to succeed.
Her favorite part of the job is teaching EKG. She comments on the hesitation from many nurses who find it to be challenging at first, but as time goes on, she has found ways to make this learning session enjoyable for the nurses, and eventually, the nurses enjoy it as well.
Memorable Educator Moments
One of Rachel's most memorable moments throughout her time with Avant Healthcare Professionals is watching nurses grow in confidence as they complete our program. She mentions how most nurses start off with some hesitancy, but as the weeks go on, they make friends, advance in their knowledge and eventually become well-rounded US-RNs who love what they do and are now excited to go on assignment. Her advice to future nurses is to find a "work family" at the facilities because that can improve your overall experience with being new to the job.
